Six String Presents Jonathan Byrd and The Pickup Cowboy with Corin Raymond

Jonathan Byrd & The Pickup Cowboy with Corin Raymond Friday, Dec 9, 2016 at The Cary Theater

Hello Live Music Fans:

Hello Live Music Fans:

My next show at The Cary Theater is Friday, December 9, 2016 at 8pm and I’ll be hosting Jonathan Byrd and The Pickup Cowboy (Johnny Waken). Also, joining Jonathan will be Canadian troubadour Corin Raymond.

We’ve done this show around this time of year for the 3rd year now and every time it’s nearly SOLD OUT. It’s always such a unique and entertaining night of music from some great songwriters. As you may know, Jonathan Byrd resides in Carrboro (when he’s not in his car) and represents our state and the state of Americana music very well. His shows are full of great songs, songwriting, humor and musicianship. Johnny Waken is outstanding on his strat and even breaks out the hand-saw for a few tunes. Corin Raymond tours with Jonathan and on his own throughout North America. This really is a fun and entertaining night.

Jonathan Byrd & The Pickup Cowboy

Jonathan Byrd is an American singer-songwriter based in Carrboro, North Carolina. He is best known for his narrative tales of love, life, and death in America. In 2003, he was among the winners of the New Folk competition at the Kerrville Folk Festival. He set a record for CD sales at the festival that year, making more sales than the main stage acts. His song, “The Ballad of Larry” has been listed a “Top Rated Song” by Americana-UK.

He primarily performs solo and accompanies himself in a variety of traditional acoustic guitar styles. His recordings have featured a variety of instrumental ensembles and typically include one or more instrumental tracks that feature Byrd’s skillful flatpicking technique.

Corin Raymond
Toronto songwriter Corin Raymond is a troubadour whose robust veracity appeals to older folks and children alike. Raymond’s songs are covered by Dustin Bentall, The Good Lovelies, The Strumbellas, The Harpoonist and the Axe Murderer, and a far flung community of roots musicians and enthusiasts.

In Corin’s mind, songs have their own instincts for survival. “I liken songs to dandelion seeds and things that are borne on the wind or that cling to the cuffs of your jeans. Good songs are like burrs. They will attach themselves to you.”

“Raymond has impeccable timing, and his performance is at once intimate, openhearted, and evangelical.” (The Georgia Straight on Bookworm) “Corin Raymond is a storyteller who by the end of the night you’ll have known your whole life.” (The Globe and Mail).
